❄️ Women Only · Dec 25–27, 2026 · 3 Days

Kotgarh.
The Mistress of the Northern Hills.

A hidden Himachali village Kipling loved — snow, deodar forests, and a heritage homestay.

Two nights in a hundred-year-old apple-orchard village at 7,000 feet, overlooking the Sutlej and the snow-clad sub-Himalayas. A short escape city women can take without even applying for leave — snowman-building, forest walks, home-cooked food, and two very good dogs named Alsa and Alpha.

The place

A rural idyll
Kipling never forgot

Kotgarh sits at 7,000 feet overlooking the Satluj River and the snow-clad sub-Himalayan ranges — the Pir Panjal and the Baspa. Rudyard Kipling anointed it "The Mistress of the Northern Hills" in his short story Lispeth, and the name has stuck for a reason.

It's famous for apple and cherry orchards, a mélange of pine, fir and spruce, and a tranquillity that's become genuinely rare. Humans and environment still live in harmony here — a small village that remains, wonderfully, hugely unexplored.

Snow-lined forest roads, and the far peaks still cobalt-and-white.
Why go in winter

A winter wonderland
for city folks

Is there a better way to spend a weekend? This short trip lets office-goers travel without taking leave — and reach a destination that hasn't quite been popularised as a weekend getaway yet.

For everyone who wants to unwind in the age-old heritage of Kotgarh: trek through dense oak forests, take in the views, and soak the winter sun while building a snowman. Small villages make the most everlasting memories.

The plan

Three days,
trip by trip

Day 1
Arrival in Kotgarh

Making a snowman while sipping coffee

After your overnight Volvo, reach Shimla around 6:30am. We board a private Tempo Traveller and drive to Kotgarh (breakfast on the way ~8:30am), through dense forests and apple-and-cherry orchards, past Narkanda. Reach the homestay by afternoon, settle in, freshen up. In the evening, a walk through a hundred-year-old heritage trail — villages, orchards, forests, and the Kotgarh church.

Day 2
Bring out your inner child

Activities in the snow

A full day in the winter wonderland — ice games, snowman-building, and the sheer joy of a snowball fight. A day to trade worries for snowy landscapes and stress for fresh winter air. Bring your gloves.

Day 3
Beautiful drive home

A morning walk, then homeward

One more lovely morning: a walk with Alsa and Alpha (the property's two cutest residents) to a forest clearing with a picturesque view. Back to the homestay, pack up, and drive to Shimla — watch the sunset from a Mall Road café. Late-evening Volvo back to Delhi, reaching ISBT by morning. Give us a hug and say goodbye.

📌 Two important notes
🚌

How the travel actually works

Our Volvo leaves Thursday, 24 December evening from ISBT Kashmiri Gate, Delhi — and you'll wake up to the mountains on the morning of the 25th. On the evening of 27 December we board the bus back from Shimla, reaching Delhi ISBT Kashmiri Gate early on the 28th. So while the trip is Dec 25–27 in the hills, plan for a Thursday-night departure and a Monday-morning return.

Prone to motion sickness? You'll be in good company

Mountain roads have their share of bends — and if travel sickness is your worry, this is genuinely a good trip to join, because you certainly won't be the only one. We look out for each other on the drive. (And yes — by Jugni tradition, whoever's tummy gives up first gets to lead the dancing that evening. It's a badge of honour here, not something to be shy about.)

Questions women ask
before they book

What's the group size?
Always small — 12 to 14 women. Small enough that everyone's known by name.
Is there an age limit?
No age policy at all. We've had 22-year-olds gel wonderfully with 65-year-olds. As long as you're fit to travel — light walking, getting on a bus — there's no restriction from our side.
Can I join alone?
Yes — most women do. You'll join a small group of women who came exactly the same way, on their own.
Need help with travel or documentation?
We've got you. Happy to assist with ticket booking and any trip-related queries — we can even book on your behalf, so the only thing you worry about is your vacation wardrobe.
