Kerala,
God's Own.

Backwaters. Tea Hills. Colonial Forts. A Beach That Stays With You.

The air in Kerala smells different — spice, rain, and green all at once. Over six days you move through four worlds: the colonial labyrinth of Fort Kochi, the cool mist of Munnar's tea estates, the slow silence of Alleppey's backwaters, and finally, the golden calm of Kovalam beach. No rush. No itinerary that leaves you breathless. Just Kerala, the way it's meant to be experienced.

Shikkara Boat Ride IncludedGlide through Alleppey's legendary backwaters on a traditional shikkara — a Kerala moment you won't forget.

From colonial ports
to backwater silence.

You land in Kochi and the light feels different — coastal, warm, filtered through centuries of history. Over six days, Kerala unfolds in layers. Fort Cochin's Chinese fishing nets still dip into the harbour the way they have for 500 years. Munnar's tea estates stretch uphill in every shade of green you can imagine. Alleppey's waterways move at a pace the world forgot. And Kovalam's beach waits at the end of it all — golden sand, the Arabian Sea, and nowhere else you need to be.

This is a trip that slows you down in the best way possible.

Day One
🛬
Kochi
Arrival · Fort Cochin · Colonial Wonders
🍽 Meals: Dinner
Welcome to Kerala. The air here is different.
Arrive at Cochin Airport and meet your fellow Jugnis — book flights landing by 11:30am. Transfer to hotel, check in, and head out for sightseeing. Fort Cochin is first — the Chinese fishing nets still dip into the harbour exactly as they have for 500 years. Then the Naval Museum, St Francis Church (where Vasco da Gama was originally buried), Santa Cruz Basilica, and Mattanchery Palace with its striking Kerala murals. The streets in between are just as interesting as the landmarks. Overnight in Cochin.

Kochi → Munnar
Road Trip · Waterfalls · Spice Garden
🍽 Meals: Breakfast & Dinner
The road to Munnar is half the experience.
Finish breakfast and start your day. Drive to Munnar — approximately 4 hours through winding ghat roads and increasingly lush landscape. On the way, stop at Cheeyappara and Valara Waterfalls — twin cascades that tumble down the Western Ghats right beside the highway. Then an authentic Kerala Spice Garden, where cardamom, pepper, nutmeg, and vanilla grow together in a dense, fragrant forest. Reach Munnar and check in. The air here is noticeably cooler. Overnight in Munnar.

Day Three
🌱
Munnar
National Park · Tea Museum · Echo Point
🍽 Meals: Breakfast & Dinner
Green in every direction — as far as you can see.
A full day to explore the highlands. Eravikulam National Park first — home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, and tea plantations that spill down every hillside. The Tea Museum is next: how Munnar became the tea capital of South India, told through machinery, photographs, and of course, a tasting. Then Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point (yes, it works — bring your voice), Kundala Lake with its shikara rides, and the 2nd Mile Viewpoint where the hills stretch out in every direction. Botanical Garden in the evening. Overnight in Munnar.

🌿 The Nilgiri Tahr is found almost nowhere else in the world. Keep your eyes open in Eravikulam — they're not shy.

Day Four
🛶
Alleppey
Backwaters · Shikkara · Lighthouse
🍽 Meals: Breakfast & Dinner
The backwaters of Alleppey move at the pace your soul needs.
Drive to Alleppey — approximately 3 to 4 hours. Kerala's famous backwaters open up as you approach: a vast network of canals, lagoons, and lakes where village life happens entirely on water. Shikkara boat ride through the waterways — low wooden boats that let you sit at water level while the coconut palms drift past. Then Alleppey Lighthouse (one of India's oldest, still operational) and Alleppey Beach. Check into your hotel and rest. The backwaters do something to the nervous system. Overnight in Alleppey.

🛶 The shikkara ride is included in your trip cost — one of Kerala's most iconic experiences, and Alleppey is the best place to do it.

Day Five
🌊
Trivandrum · Kovalam
Jatayu Park · Temple · Kovalam Beach
🍽 Meals: Breakfast & Dinner
The Arabian Sea at golden hour. Worth the whole drive.
Drive to Kovalam — 4 to 6 hours depending on traffic. On the way, Jatayu Earth's Centre in Chadayamangalam: a sculpted Jatayu (the mythical bird from the Ramayana) set into a hillside, with cable car access and panoramic views of the Western Ghats. Then Azhimala Shiva Temple, dramatically positioned where the cliffs meet the sea — one of Kerala's most visually striking temples. Arrive at Kovalam and soak in what the coast has to offer. The Arabian Sea at Kovalam is different from any other beach you've been to in India. Overnight near Trivandrum.

✦ Before You Pack

What to carry
to Kerala.

Kerala in September is warm, humid, and occasionally rainy — the tail end of monsoon season. Pack accordingly, keep it light, and carry cash since ATMs can be unreliable in smaller towns.

🎒
Essentials
Clothing for warm, humid weather. Sunscreen and moisturiser. A reusable water bottle. Original ID proof — Aadhaar / Voter ID / Passport / Driving Licence. Prescribed medicines and any personal medication. Currency in cash — network can be patchy and ATMs are not always reliable outside cities.

🌧️
September in Kerala
September is the tail end of monsoon — expect lush green landscapes, occasional rain showers, and cooler temperatures in Munnar (15–20°C at night). The backwaters are full and beautiful. Pack a light rain jacket or compact umbrella. Kovalam and Kochi will be warm and humid — breathable fabrics work best. The crowds are lower in September, which makes it ideal.

Questions we hear often.

Is September a good time to visit Kerala?
Yes — September is the tail end of monsoon season. The landscape is incredibly green, the crowds are low, and the backwaters are full. You may get some rain showers, especially in Munnar. Pack a light rain jacket and embrace it — Kerala in the rain is beautiful.
Which airports should I fly in and out of?
Fly into Cochin International Airport (COK) by 11:30am on Day 1. Fly out of Trivandrum International Airport (TRV) on Day 6 — book flights departing after 6pm to ensure comfortable time. Flights are not included in the trip cost but we're happy to help with routing.
What is the shikkara boat ride and is it included?
A shikkara is a traditional low wooden boat — the classic way to experience Alleppey's backwaters at water level, past coconut groves, village life, and birds. Yes, it's fully included in your trip cost. This is one of the signature moments of the Kerala trip.
Is there a dress code for the temples?
Yes — Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Trivandrum has a strict dress code. Women must wear a saree or similar traditional attire. Men must wear a dhoti. We recommend carrying suitable clothing or hiring it near the temple entrance. We'll brief you before the visit.
Can I join alone even if I don't know anyone?
Most Jugni travellers do. In fact, that's the whole point — you arrive alone and leave with women who feel like they've known you for years. Kerala's slow pace makes it especially easy to connect. By the time you're on the shikkara together, strangers don't exist anymore.
Is Kerala safe for women travellers?
Kerala consistently ranks among the safest states in India for women. High literacy, strong tourism infrastructure, and a culturally respectful environment make it one of the most comfortable destinations in the country. On a Jugni trip, you also have a team leader with you throughout and a group of women around you — safety at every level.

Kerala has been waiting.
So have you.
