Arrive at Almaty International Airport. Your guide meets you and transfers you to the hotel. Once you’ve settled in, an easy first outing on foot — the colourful Green Bazaar and the wooden Ascension Cathedral, both a short walk away. Evening dinner together. A gentle start before the mountains.

Shymbulak Ski Resort

Cable cars, alpine air, and a snowball fight.

A full winter day at Shymbulak — Central Asia’s premier ski resort, rising right above Almaty. Ride the cable car up for sweeping snow-covered mountain views, breathe the crisp alpine air, and yes — a proper snowball fight is more or less compulsory. Back in Almaty for the afternoon: café hopping, last shopping, or a relaxed city walk.

Kolsai & Kaindy Lakes
The pearls of the Northern Tien Shan, in the snow.
An early drive into the mountains to the Kolsai Lakes — a string of alpine lakes often called the “Pearls of the Northern Tien Shan.” Then on to Kaindy Lake, famous for its turquoise water and the ghostly submerged forest of spruce trees rising straight out of the lake. In winter the whole valley turns quiet and white. Tonight you stay at the Kolsai Lakes resort — warm, comfortable, and right in the heart of the mountains.

Charyn Canyon → Almaty

Kazakhstan’s own Grand Canyon, rimmed with snow.

Morning drive to Charyn Canyon — Kazakhstan’s answer to the Grand Canyon. Walk through the Valley of Castles, where wind and time have carved the red rock into towers and spires; under a dusting of snow it is genuinely surreal. Short, easy hikes along the canyon floor. In the evening, return to Almaty to rest and warm up.

Fly Almaty → Bishkek

Crossing into Kyrgyzstan.

Check out after breakfast and transfer to Almaty airport for a short flight into Bishkek, the Kyrgyz capital. On arrival, a half-day city tour to get your bearings, followed by dinner at an Indian restaurant. A relaxed travel day that moves you from one country to the next.

Issyk-Kul

Burana Tower & Issyk-Kul

An ancient tower, a lake that never freezes, and a hot spring.

Drive to the historic Burana Tower, a 10th–11th-century minaret standing alone on the steppe, surrounded by an open-air museum of ancient stone figures. Continue to Issyk-Kul — the world’s second-largest alpine lake (1,608m), so deep and slightly saline that it never fully freezes, even in winter. Tonight’s reward: soaking in a natural hot spring at the resort while the air around you is freezing. (Carry a swimsuit.)

Trip Leader’s Tip · From ExperienceKeep your swimsuit somewhere you can grab it fast — the natural hot spring at Akbermet is the surprise everyone falls for. On our last trip the group sank into the steaming water with snow drifting down around them and simply refused to get out; we genuinely had to call them in when dinner was served. Carry it in your day bag, not the bottom of your suitcase.

Set off for Chon-Kemin National Park, a pristine valley of forest, river and snow-dusted mountain. By evening you arrive at Ala-Kush Yurt Glamping: beautifully built traditional Kyrgyz yurts, heated and comfortable, with stunning mountain views. Dinner and an overnight under the stars in a real yurt — the moment most women say defined the trip.

Mosque, bazaar, and dry fruits to carry home.

A relaxed morning drive back to Bishkek (around 2.5 hours). Visit a beautiful Turkish-style mosque, then time at Osh Bazaar — the city’s great market, and the place to stock up on Central Asian dry fruits, honey and souvenirs. A final group dinner together.

Late November in Central Asia is properly cold — daytime around 0 to −5°C, colder in the mountains and at the lakes, with snow likely. This is a winter trip: pack for it, and you’ll be perfectly comfortable. Below are the suggested flights and everything you need to carry.

Visas — Almost None

Kazakhstan is visa-free for Indian passport holders. Kyrgyzstan needs a simple e-visa (USD 95) that our agent arranges — just a scanned passport copy and one photo. Already hold a valid US, UK or Schengen visa? You may be able to skip the Kyrgyz e-visa entirely:

✓Stay is capped at 7 days (our leg fits); visa-free re-entry only after 21 days.

Winter Packing

A proper insulated jacket, thermals, gloves, a beanie and a warm scarf. Waterproof shoes or boots with grip for snow and ice. A swimsuit for the Issyk-Kul hot spring. Sunglasses (snow glare is real), lip balm and moisturiser. A power bank, and your original passport. Layer up — hotels and the yurt are heated.

Do I need visas for Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan? ↓

Kazakhstan is visa-free for Indian passport holders. Kyrgyzstan needs a simple e-visa (USD 95) which our agent arranges — just a scanned passport copy and one photo. And if you already hold a valid US, UK or Schengen visa (min. 3-year validity, on your current passport) you can enter Kyrgyzstan visa-free for up to 7 days, arriving by air into Bishkek — no e-visa at all. We confirm your eligibility before you travel.

How cold is it in late November? ↓

It’s a proper winter trip. Expect roughly 0 to −5°C in the cities during the day, colder at the lakes and in the mountains, and a good chance of snow — which is exactly what makes Charyn Canyon, the snowy Kolsai lakes and Shymbulak so beautiful. With warm layers, a good jacket and waterproof boots, you’ll be very comfortable. Hotels and the yurt are heated.

What is the food arrangement? I’m vegetarian. ↓

Breakfast is included daily, plus 5 dinners across the trip — including dinners at Indian restaurants in Almaty and Bishkek. Vegetarian options are available throughout. If you have specific dietary needs, tell us at booking and we’ll plan around them.

What is the yurt night actually like? ↓

At Ala-Kush Yurt Glamping in Chon-Kemin you sleep in a beautifully built traditional Kyrgyz yurt — heated, with proper bedding and stunning mountain views. It combines authenticity with real comfort, and it’s consistently the moment women say defined the whole trip. Dinner and breakfast are included here.

Will the lakes and mountain roads be accessible in winter? ↓

We’ve run this region 15+ times over 10 years and know it in every season. Access to the Kolsai/Kaindy lakes and high passes depends on snow on the day; our local team monitors conditions and adjusts the plan safely when needed so you never miss the heart of the experience. Issyk-Kul itself never fully freezes and is stunning in winter.

Is this safe for solo Indian women travellers? ↓

Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan are warm, welcoming and very safe for travellers, with low street crime. You travel as a small group of women with an English-speaking local guide and a Jugni trip leader throughout, plus 24x7 support. Safety at every level.

What is the group size and age range? ↓

A small, intimate group of 10–14 solo women travellers. There’s no age policy — we’ve had 22-year-olds gel beautifully with women in their 60s. As long as you’re fit to travel (flights and light walking), you’re welcome.
